About Tea
Tea was accidentally discovered over 5,000 years ago by a Chinese emperor, and its legend has grown ever since. Ancient peoples drank this mystical beverage to relax their bodies, sooth their minds, calm their spirits, and heal their illnesses. Today we can enjoy the same legendary drink that remains unchanged through the centuries, and also understand the “miraculous” properties that have lead so many to sing its praises.
The Story of Tea
When the leaves of a little tree, Camellia Sinensis fell accidentally into his pot of boiling water, imparting its magical aroma, little did Emperor Cheng Nung of China realize that his discovery in 2737 B.C. was destined to sprout in its purest form on the tropical island of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka.
Pure Ceylon Tea
In 1867, James Taylor planted the first 20 acres of tea in the Loolecondera Estate in Deltota, pioneering the development of the tea industry in Ceylon.
Bogawantalawa Estates, the largest tea estate in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) undoubtedly produces the purest Ceylon Tea. The highland soil with its unique properties and wholesome year-round climate has nurtured our tea bushes for more than 130 years. Because of this, our tea bushes produce the distinctive flavor and taste of pure tea, unmatched in any other part of the globe.
